2011/2012 TRENDS
With fashion being so cyclical, retro styles have their way of weaving in and out of the mode. This season, everyone is taking their inspiration from the past, carefully selecting accessories from different decades to get the ultimate retro look. Which decade will you choose?
1980s
Bold color palettes and interesting patterns are the way to go for the ultime eighties-inspired look. Nothing stands out better in the drab colors of the cooler months than a bright pair of shades. Make a statement with bold frames that show off your individuality – one of the most important aspects of eighties fashion.

Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses are an iconic accessory in the decade of excess, thanks to the film “Risky Business,” in which Tom Cruise sported the funky plastic frames and caused a major increase in the brand’s popularity. These sunglasses come in a wide range of funky patterns and colors – above are colors 1047, 955, and 1001/3F.

Face a Face eyewear’s Axess frame is a popular style as well and is available in nearly 30 different color and pattern combinations. You can mix plain shades with stripes for a playful mix of styles, or stick with solids for a trendy color blocked look. Above colors are 647, 653, and 259.
1960s and 1970s
While the large-framed sunglasses of the seventies have been back in style for a few years, this season, eyewear stretches back even further into the past, implementing mod sixties flair into the glamourous shades. Mykita eyewear often creates excellent interpretations of retro glasses, particularly with their latest style in collaboration with Bernhard Willhelm – the “Janis.”

As an ode to the soulful singer Janis Joplin, Mykita blends perfectly the oversized frames of the seventies with the round lenses of the decade before.

Mykita Isabella sunglasses are also a great representation of both fashionable eras, with the large frames and the semi-cat eye shape. This model defines the term “retro chic.”
1950s
Part of the 1950s were about breaking out of conformity and molding your own sense of style. Mod stylings were popular towards the end of the decade and drew inspiration from the classic looks from earlier on. Ray Ban Clubmaster sunglasses in color 1013 are the perfect example of a modern twist on a time-honored style.

The Clubmaster builds late fifties flair all around the timeless metal rim, with rounded lenses and an acetate top striped with blue, red, orange and violet. The colors are subtle enough to make a statement without overpowering your appearance. Shine on in the winter sun with a pair of these fabulous Ray Ban frames.
