Did you know that for every pair of designer glasses or sunglasses that you purchase at Vizio Optic, we give a pair to someone in need?
The local community is important to us. Vizio Optic strives to make positive contributions to our neighbors and to also support important philanthropic eye care organizations that benefit medically underserved communities.
In an time where more than two-thirds of people over the age of 18 wear corrective eyewear, with approximately 90 percent of people suffering “computer vision syndrome” (according to the Wall Street Journal), can you imagine what it would be like to go through life without the aid of your glasses? Unfortunately, this is a reality for a staggering 733 million people around the world, 77 percent of which can be helped with a simple pair of eyeglasses.
The quality of life for hundreds of millions of people is seriously diminished due to vision loss and the inability to access proper eye care, with the New York Times reporting in 2010 that simple corrective lenses could lead to “better, more productive lives” in upwards of two billion people. One of the ways Vizio Optic helps is by collecting your old eyeglasses to donate to carefully selected nonprofits, ones that work to improve international eye health while providing important education about eye care and eliminating preventable blindness.
If you have an old pair of eyeglasses that you would like to donate, please feel free to drop it off at our store at 11 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA.
We also offer monetary support to organizations like Unite For Sight, which helps fund eye clinics around the world that offer education and care to those in need. Unite For Sight supports eye care programs in 25 countries on five continents, helping 1.4 million people since 2000 and providing sight restoration surgery to more than 56,000 patients. Donations also go towards training Global Impact Fellows, who work with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and ophthalmic nurses to provide eye health care to those living in poverty in their local communities and overseas.
In addition to Unite For Sight, Vizio Optic also supports the Perkins School for the Blind, a trusted organization that has been in operation since 1832 and famously worked with Helen Keller in the late 19th century; the National Braille Press, which promotes braille education the literacy of blind children; Lions Club International, a service club organization with initiatives focused on preventing blindness and restoring sight; and the Boston Children’s Hospital. Each nonprofit has been selected for its outstanding reputation and dedication to providing care to those in need.
If you wish to make a charitable contribution, please consider one of the above, Vizio Optic-approved organizations. Your donation will help support programs aimed at improving global eye health and eliminating preventable blindness. You may also drop off an old pair of eyeglasses at our store any time. If you do not live locally, please contact us for information on where to send your glasses. We appreciate your eyewear donation and thank you for helping us contribute to a great cause.
